What to do on the Ranch?
If you are into exploring, bring your boots or sturdy walking shoes, your rugged jeans and shirts. The interesting terrain is a bit hilly, has a wet/dry creek to cross, and has a crater formed by errosion over the years. The cattle are curious animals, but usually keep their distance. Sometimes guests feel more secure if they carry one of the walking sticks.
Or, do nothing but hang out, if you'd rather. There's nothing more relaxing than taking a nap or reading a good book in the hammock under the Sycamore tree. A long covered porch furnished with a settee, chairs, rockers, and a swing provide a peaceful place for simply enjoying the outdoors with a morning coffee, afternoon tea, or evening beer or wine. A variety of birds, including hummingbirds, are entertaining as they frequent the feeders and bird bath.
Guests are welcome to sample the plentiful, sweet, juicy fruit from the peach tree that ripens around April.
A Moonlight Event:
Many of the guests enjoy sitting around an evening cowboy campfire, toasting marshmallows and eating S'mores. The cry of the Coyotes during the full moon and the croaking sounds of the frogs emanating from the creek are amusing. One can delight in an easy search for the Big Dipper among the blanket of stars throughout the clear Texas sky. |

Places to Visit
Big Tin Flag Bed & Breakfast is surrounded by six Czech or German churches that are hundreds of years old and feature beautifully hand-painted walls and ceilings. Close by is the historical Kreische Brewery, located at Monument Hill and Brewery State Park.
Of particular interest is the new Czech Center, which features the largest Czechoslavakia-import, crystal chandelier, in the U.S. Several Circa 1800 homes relocated to the site offer a glimpse of what pionjeer life was like in La Grange. Furnished in the original style of their day, walls are adorned with vintage photos of the large families who built and occupied the homes. Only a donation is suggested for touring the houses.
An old stone building just off downtown's square, once the old Jail House, is now the home of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce. Visitors are welcome to come and look at the one of the cells as it was back in the day.
These are just some of the sights that bring a sense of history to the area. Other interesting attractions include the expansive fields of Bluebonnet and red-orange Indian Paintbrush flowers that are in full, glorious bloom around the end of March. Just for the picking around Mothers' Day, the Big Tin Flag B & B acreage yields a plentiful crop of Dewberries.
