Big Tin Flag Bed & Breakfast is owned and hosted by Pat and Jerry Schmidt, who came to Texas as soon as they could.  They lived, worked, and raised their two daughters in Houston for 30 years before they discovered La Grange.  Both dreamed of owning a ranch there, having learned about its charm during many week-end visits at the home of close friends.

On July 1, 1997, their dream came true when 100 acres with an old house and a myriad of dilapidated structures went on the market. The rolling hill property, located between Swiss Hill and Hostyn, communities settled in the early 1800's by German and Czech immigrants, was perfectly beautiful with its many old live oaks and a creek with live springs.

 The neglected 1940's house became an on-going project,  which, they say,  does not  seem like work in a place where the air is fresh, the sky is clear, and only the pleasant sounds of wildlife are heard.  Best of all it's a place where neighbors are helpful, honest, and trustworthy.

The desire to stay busy, utilize all their combined skills, along with their love of people and entertaining, spawned the idea for this bed and breakfast.   The first guests spent the night in the Bluebonnet Room in April of 2003, and they and others return year after year.  Pat and Jerry look forward to meeting and serving people, and enjoying the adventure of a Bed and Breakfast for a long time to come.

Bed & Breakfast Policies

Big Tin Flag B & B may be rented out room-by-room.  Currently the house is not rented unhosted, but plans are in the works for  whole-house rentals. Either way, the rates are affordable and quite competitive. During peak events, such as the Warrenton-Round Top Antique shows and other big events, a two-night minimum is required.

Cancellation:  Full deposit refund requires an eight (8) day notice prior to reservation date, by phone.  A cancellation number must be obtained.  If canceled within 7 days prior to reservation date, a full deposit will be applied to a future stay.  There will be a $15 processing fee deducted from the refund.

During the Antique Shows or other special events, a 30-day notice is required for a deposit refund to be issued.
