Big Tin Flag Bed & Breakfast is operated by Pat and Jerry Schmidt. For many years, while they lived in Houston, Pat was a legal secretary, and Jerry was a mechanical engineer. Both dreamed of owning a ranch in the La Grange area, having learned about its charm during many week-end visits at the home of their friends Gino and Basil Schiavone.

On July 1, 1997, their dream came true when 100 acres and an early 1940's, run-down home with an add-on eyesore, and a myriad of other dilapidated structures went on the market. The rolling hill property, located between Swiss Hill and Hostyn, communities settled in the early 1800's by German and Czech immigrants, was perfectly beautiful with its many old live oaks and a creek with live springs running through it.

The yellow house, as Jerry exclaimed, is "a tear down, and I'll not put a dime into it.  " Eight years later, with quite a sum of dimes spent and continuing, they have a project that keeps them quite energized in their senior years, in a place where the air is fresh, the sky is clear, and only the pleasant sounds of wildlife are heard.  Best of all it's a place where neighbors are helpful, honest, and trustworthy.

The need to stay busy, utilizing all their combined skills in working on remodeling projects, cooking, and gardening, along with their love of people and entertaining, spawned the idea for this bed and breakfast, which had its first guests in April of 2003.  Pat and Jerry look forward to meeting and serving people, and enjoying the adventure of a Bed and Breakfast for a long time to come.

Bed & Breakfast Policies
We offer more hospitality to our guests than most other establishments and enjoy what we do. We love to cook and serve large breakfasts, which includes our signature homemade bread and freshly squeezed orange juice.  Our B & B may be rented out room-by-room. Currently we are not renting the house, unhosted, but do plan on resuming whole house rentals in the future. Either way, our rates are affordable and quite competitive. During peak events, such as the Warrenton-Round Top Antique shows and other big events, we place a two-night limit on reservations, but at any other time, you may stay as long as you desire.
